망막정맥폐쇠

본인은 시드니의대 연수과정 초기부터 의료 연구에 참여해왔습니다. 호주의 저명안과전문의 Dr Paul Beaumont의 지도아래 논문 "Quantification of the Morphology of Retinal Vein Occlusion"을 완결하여 1990년 시드니대학 메달을 수상했습니다. 이논문은 여러 주요 의학저널에 보고되었습니다.

레이저광 시력교정

1993년 의대수련중 Perth Lions Eye Institute에서 호주에 도입된 시력교정 레이저 (excimer laser) 세가지 종류를 세밀검토 했습니다. 레이저광 시력교정은 (라식, 라섹등) 현제 세계적으로 보편화 되어 근시 물론 원시와 난시에도 성공적인 치료방안으로 발달했습니다. 이 연구활동의 결과는 1994년 Kuala Lumpur에서 열린 RANZCO 회의에서 발표됐고 1995년 안과전문지에 출판되었습니다.

황반원공 치료를위한 유리체절개술의 효율과 안전도 검토를 목적으로 세계 전문지에 보고된 결과를 총 분석하고 호주환자대상의 결과와 비교했습니다. 그 결론으로 보다 신속한 수술이 성공율을 높이고 더 좋은 시력결과를 선사함을 보여 주었습니다. 또한 백내장과 유리체절개술을 동시 시술함의 장단점을 보고했습니다.

Dr Beaumont의 협조로 황반변성의 진단과 치료의 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 그중 가장 광범위한 연구는 황반변성 치료에 해당되는 특징을 바탕으로 병증을 그룹으로 식별하는 이론이었습니다.
